Written Work
Wooden Teeth publishes work that is innovative and exciting, lyrical and electric. Avoid vagueness; we love specificity. Pick up a copy of our current issue or review our back issues to see what we've published in the past. You need not worry about length, but the longer your work is the more difficult it is to publish. Anything longer than 5,000 words will have to be stellar. We will inform you if length is the only problem and may work to shorten it. We make comments on most rejected manuscripts.
Please note: Spoken word poetry does not generally get published because we are strictly a printed medium. If you compose spoken word, please consider submitting your work to Mortar & Pestle.
Artwork We will consider all artwork that can be reproduced in two-dimensional black and white. Although we most often print photography, we are also looking for drawings and paintings. Please pick up a copy of the current issue of Wooden Teeth at MC 431 to see samples of past artwork.
Deadlines
The deadline for submitting poetry and prose to our 31st issue is March 7th. 2-D Art and photography will be accepted until April 11th.
Simultaneous Submissions
We welcome simultaneous submissions; however, we ask that you not submit pieces that have already been published elsewhere. Please also limit your number of submissions to three. Keep writing and send us your new stuff.
Who Can Submit
Undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, alumni, and staff are encouraged to submit up to three pieces each semester. Submission can be done either electronically (woodie@gwu.edu) or by visiting our office (MC 431). When submitting via email, please send the manuscript as an attachment.
Format
All submissions should be typed with name and email address displayed at the top. Please include your real name so that we may verify that you are a member of the GW community. All identification information will be removed during the review process. If you request that your work be published under a pseudonym, we will consider it, provided there is a compelling reason.
Return Policy
No literary work is returned, but all visual art will be returned at the artist's request. If visual art is not claimed after four semesters, it becomes the property of Wooden Teeth.
Pieces that have been selected will be published in our next issue, available in April 2008.
