GETTING SERIOUS...
Singing is a combination of talent and skill. Some of us have been singing since we were babies, in public and in private, and have always been told that "wow, you can really sing!" Some of us always have a song in our hearts and minds but only sing to ourselves. Some of us feel that there are flaws in our singing voices, such as not being able to hit a high note, not being able to hold a low note, having a hoarse quality, or simply we just sum it up and say, "I'm a bad singer, no really, I'm awful."
But the GOOD NEWS is that singing is like any other sport or ability. While some are blessed with that splendid mix of talent and skill, most of us will fall short on one, the other, or a combination of both. The GOOD NEWS is that because singing is like a sport or ability, all it takes is practice and exercise to get your voice to reach its peak!
To get scientific on you, the vocal chords are small thin muscles that vibrate when air passes through them. The more 'elastic' they become, the easier it will be for notes to be produced. COMING TO VOI REHEARSALS REGULARLY, AND PRACTICING BREATHING AND VOCALIZING TECHNIQUES WILL HAVE YOUR VOICE IN SHAPE IN NO TIME. And YES you do need to WARM UP and COOL DOWN, just as if you were getting ready to jog.
Please utilize the following resources as we will employ a variation of these techniques and we also hope that you will learn something that you can share with the group!
