Please note the following about Umbrella organizations:
§ Each organization (both the umbrella organization and those that fall under the umbrella) must register annually through the Student Activities Center. In that registration process, the overarching organization must indicate what organizations fall under their umbrella, and an organization falling under the umbrella of another must indicate the umbrella organization with which they are affiliated.
o If an umbrella org claims another org that doesn’t claim them back, the umbrella org may be ineligible to receive funding from the SA for that specific org claiming to fall under their umbrella.
§ Specific Information for Orgs Falling Under A Larger Organization’s Umbrella
o On the online budget form that is a part of the SAC annual registration process, each organization under a larger organization’s umbrella will click “yes” to the question about whether or not they are seeking operational funding from the Student Association. In addition, in the bottom section of that online budget form, orgs falling under another’s umbrella will note they plan to receive funding from the large umbrella org (and state the name of that organization).
o In order to receive funds for an umbrella organization, all orgs that fall under the umbrella of another must complete registration before the SA funding deadline has passed.
§ Specific Information for the Overarching Umbrella Org (larger organization leading umbrella of organizations)
o The over-arching umbrella organization is responsible for requesting funding from the Student Association for all organizations falling under their umbrella and re-allocating that funding to those organizations. The umbrella organization must present budgets for each organization that it plans to allocate funds with their general budget to the Finance Committee in the online budget form and at time of the initial allocation hearing. This should be done by noting each smaller organization’s operational cost (ex: Larger umbrella org would note “Smaller org Name – description of operational cost”)
o Umbrella organizations are not allowed to oversee any other area of operations of any groups under their umbrella other than their finances. Each organization must manage other operations for their own organization. These include but are not limited to:
§ Reserving space on campus
§ Planning events
§ Hosting non-GW groups on campus
§ Contract a vendor for service
§ Event specific co-sponsorship funding
