GW REIDO Hosts Second Annual Real Estate Case Competition


On Saturday, April 5, 2008, GW's Real Estate Investment and Development Organization held its second annual real estate case competition sponsored by Vornado / Charles E. Smith and the Gould Property Company.  The competition began in January, 2008 with entries from 15 MBA programs from around the country.  The final six teams competed at George Washington's School of Business in front of an esteemed panel of judges from various sectors of the industry:

Shalom Baranes - Shalom Baranes Associates
John Brod - PBS Real Estate
Joe Carrol - Lowe Enterprises
Ed Gosselin - Intrepid Real Estate
Ellen McCarthy - Nixon Peabody
Carol Mitten - Amtrak
Diana Nickerson - BB&T
Kenneth Simmons - Boston Properties

The six final teams competing on April 5 were Columbia University (2 teams), University of Cincinatti, University of Maryland (2 teams), and the University of Virginia.  The top three teams were chosen following six impressive, well-researched and in-depth presentations and are as follows:

1st Place: University of Maryland (Prize of $15,000)
2nd Place: University of Virginia (Prize of $5,000)
3rd Place: Columbia University (Prize of $2,500)
