United Nations Week in the Greater Washington Community
The anniversary of the founding of the United Nations on October 24, 1945, is celebrated worldwide as United Nations Day. In the Washington DC area the United Nations Association of the National Capital Area (UNA-NCA) has for many years led the observance of this historic day. Beginning in 2003, UNA expanded its activities to cooperate with many other institutions and organizations in celebrating the entire week surrounding UN Day as United Nations Week.
The purpose of United Nations Week is to enlarge public understanding of, and support for, the work of the United Nations and its family of specialized agencies. Because UN agencies deal in some fashion with almost every issue of human concern, opportunities abound for many kinds of organizations to recognize the importance of the United Nations in their particular field of interest.
We invite you to join in this community-wide celebration of United Nations Week 2008!
