Pharmacogenomics Program

The combination of pharmacology and genetics makes Pharmacogenomics (PGx) a truly unique scientific field. Research in PGx is essentially focused on personalizing drug therapies based on a patient’s genetic makeup and being able to predict drug responses. The significance of this field becomes obvious when we consider the possibility of reducing life-threatening adverse reactions of drugs by means of genetic testing.

Understanding the critical importance of this field, the George Washington University - School of Medicine and Health Sciences in conjunction with the Bernard J. Dunn School of Pharmacy at Shenandoah University created a one of a kind Program. Incepted in 2005, the Pharmacogenomics program is now in its third year.
