Panhellenic Relationship Statement

 Whereas,         Fraternities exist on George Washington University’s campus that are not recognized by the Greek Governing Councils or by George Washington University, and

Whereas,         We, as The George Washington University Panhellenic Association support the IFC organizations and their respective policies, and

Whereas,          Unrecognized organizations must not be allowed to function and falsely identify themselves as recognized fraternities when they are of no service to The George Washington University and our Greek community, and

Whereas,          These unrecognized organizations, that were unable to obtain recognition or obey the rules set forth by the governing bodies of the IFC and the George Washington University, therefore lost their recognition. Their operations have failed to meet the standards set forth in order to protect the members, potential members, and guests.  With no accountability, they may have practices that are harmful and unlawful which could put individuals whom enter their facilities at risk. These unrecognized fraternities may not exemplify the principles, values and ideals held by the IFC and the George Washington University, and

Whereas,          Unrecognized Organizations have the potential to ruin the hard work that IFC/Panhellenic Association along with the rest of the Greek community has labored to achieve.

Therefore,        We, the Panhellenic Association, are asking all member sororities to discontinue or continue to discontinue formally associating with unrecognized Greek organizations. We feel some of the events in question include, but are not limited to: mixers, date parties, philanthropy and community service events, Greek week, IFC fraternity rush, or any other recognized Greek-only affair. However, if an event is open to the entire student body, then members of unrecognized fraternities may participate as individuals. It needs to be stressed that we are not asking individual members to discontinue associating with individuals that are connected to unrecognized organizations on a private level, we are asking George Washington University Panhellenic organizations to agree to avoid events at an organizational level.
