Pledge Week
This week, many of my GW School of Business colleagues signed their "Green Pledge." The commitment is very small, but so is the effort needed to follow the spirit of the Pledge.
The pledge says, "By signing this card, I pledge to be conscious of the little choices I make many times during every single day. By recycling, conserving energy and water when possible, and taking the extra step, I can save myself and my company money while making our world a Little Greener."
At the table, we displayed 10 easy steps everyone can take, almost daily, to save energy, water, resources, and money.
The 10 actions are:
1. Save Water- limit shower time and turn off water when you are brushing your teeth
2. Turn off lights when you leave the room
3. Unplug cell phone chargers
4. Use a Nalgene– avoid buying bottled water
5. Bring a backpack to the grocery store
6. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
7. Take the Stairs- instead of the elevator
8. Support your local producers, fair trade and organics
9. Don’t litter and pick up trash
10. Paper over plastic, plastic over styrofoam
As you can see, these are steps we can all take in our daily lives. We firmly believe that the big picture is of vast importance, but we also need to act locally, and encourage our friends and colleagues to do the same. I would like to thank the undergraduate group GreenGW for inspiring us to do our own Pledge Week. It was, by all accounts, a great success. - Posted by JD Berry at 12:12 am on 02/01/07
