During the night
beneath the stars
and skies
held within
the wings of angels, I shattered my Má’s
world into a million
puzzle pieces.
Pieces that cried tears
tears that became puddles
puddles that became streams
streams that became rivers
rivers that became oceans
oceans that swallowed up
lands we thought we
knew and shared.
I asked her if she
still loved me
She said yes, of course
I asked if she
was okay
She said no, but that she would be
eventually, but to keep the angels
to myself.
I hold on to them.
Guardians guiding
and blessing
the puzzle
waiting for halos
to be whole and
fit like new again
