Submission Guidelines

Thank you for your interest in submitting to Mortar & Pestle Literary Magazine!  Mortar & Pestle accepts fiction, creative non-fiction or memoir, poetry, creative essays or prose, photography and any art that can be scanned to a digital file.

Guidelines for submissions are as follows:

- Writers must be undergraduate students attending a university within the Washington, D.C. area.  (We have recently made exceptions for GW graduates, but this will be done on a case-by-case basis)

- Submit only unpublished works.

- Fiction/creative non-fiction has no limit in length because we are an online magazine.

- Please inform us if this is a simultaneous submission, i.e. you are submitting a piece to Mortar as well as another Lit Mag.

- Please submit a two-three line bio with your work.

- Please submit poetry, fiction and other writing in a .doc format in standard point-12 font.

- Please submit photographs and other scannable art in a .jpg or .gif format.

- Mortar & Pestle editors reserve the right to copy-edit for punctuation, grammar, spelling, and other such minor edits.  By submitting your work to Mortar & Pestle, you are pre-approving our minor edits.

- Submission deadline for Fall 2009 is November 10th
