Send your submissions via e-mail to lecultedumoi@gmail.com. We want you. Bad.
To All fans of the English Language (among others),
We, the editors of Le Culte du Moi, encourage you to submit: your poetry, your short fiction, your musings in a foreign language; most importantly, yourself.
First, a word about our history: Le Culte du Moi was formally established during the autumn of 2002 with one goal in mind: to cultivate and encourage GW's meager literary community. The group's founding members, idealistic undergraduates known for their haughtiness as much as their camaraderie, were nicknamed "le culte du moi" by a beloved poetry professor—translated from French, a name meaning "the cult of me" or "the cult of ego."
Much like the Russian Formalists or the Whigs before them, the followers of Le Culte cheerfully adopted this phrase of playful derision, in reality a great compliment and a worthy aspiration. Personally inviting GW's best young writers to submit to the new magazine, Le Culte offered to publish not just poetry but "longer stories or essays." The guidelines were simple: we would "accept almost anything" provided that it was good. The inaugural issue eventually included fifteen pieces of poetry, twelve short stories, and an essay by a GW professor.
In the pursuit of our original goal––to expand GW's enjoyment and recognition of creative writing––Le Culte publishes the work of professors and students in per-semester issues. From Dada-esque poetry to traditional sonnets, we appreciate all forms of the written word. We would like to add your successes to our own.
We ask only that all submissions be attached to an e-mail as Word documents. There is no limit concerning the number of pieces we receive; in fact, we encourage interested writers to submit multiple works to demonstrate their range and to improve their opportunity for publication. Nor do we enforce a limit on the length of individual submissions; we do, however, find that compositions shorter than 6 pages are generally easier to review and publish. We allow you to submit to other publications simultaneously, but this is generally frowned upon. Please notify us immediately if your work is being published by another magazine.
As part of our mission to "promote quality writing from students of The George Washington University," Le Culte du Moi responds to all submissions with detailed feedback, constructive criticism, and suggestions.
All submissions are reviewed anonymously by the closed editorial board of Le Culte du Moi. Le Culte du Moi does not discriminate on the basis of age, race, gender, sexual orientation, religious affiliation, or similar characteristics. Only on the quality of writing.
Sincerely,
The Editors of Le Culte du Moi
