Sigma Chi is one of the largest international all-male college social fraternities, with chapters at universities in Canada and the United States. Sigma Chi was founded in 1855 at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio when members split from Delta Kappa Epsilon. Sigma Chi has seven founding members: Benjamin Piatt Runkle, Thomas Cowan Bell, William Lewis Lockwood, Isaac M. Jordan, Daniel William Cooper, Franklin Howard Scobey, and James Parks Caldwell. The fundamental purpose of this fraternity is to promote the concepts of Friendship, Justice and Learning within its membership.

The Epsilon Chapter of Sigma Chi at GW is steeped in tradition. Founded at GW in 1864 we are the oldest Fraternity on campus. It is our brothers, with diverse interests in extracurricular activities, academics, and cultural identities that make this Fraternity the ideal chapter and brotherhood it is today.

Our brothers are very involved in GW life. With a former and current SA Vice President, former and current SA Senators and Cabinet members, and Student Court Chief Justice, we carry influence in our student government. Currently we have brothers serving as IFC President, SA Vice President, Student Greek Life Coordinator, editor in chief of the GW Patriot, Finance Chair of Program Board, Chair of the Marvin Center Governing Board, Executive Producer for GWTV, members of the JEC, and many more influential student organizations and GW offices.

Sigma Chi brothers find themselves with internships in government offices such as the US Senate, the House of Representatives, the White House, financial firms such as Deloitte and Goldman Sacs, and many different lobbying and law firms.

Sigma Chi, however, is not all work and no play. Throughout the year our Social Chair plans parties and sorority mixers. Your weekends are never dull. Our brothers lived balanced lives in college, finding time to study and have fun.

Well respected in the Greek community, Sigma Chi received Gold Standard in the Greek Excellence Awards, along with our former president, Joseph Buono winning Greek Man of the Year. Currently sophomore brother, Charles Pressner, is serving as IFC President.
