International Affairs Society
About Us

The International Affairs Society (IAS) is a student organization at the George Washington University committed to enhancing the experience of those students interested in the inner workings of international culture and diplomacy. IAS is an academic and social organization serving both the educational and recreational demands of students. IAS is responsible for student coordination with the Elliott School of International Affairs, as well as bringing many distinguished speakers to campus to discuss relevant issues from today's front page news. Also under the auspices of the IAS is GW's very own Model United Nations team -- perennially one of the best in the nation. IAS also manages two Washington-area Model UN conferences: the Greater Washington Conference on International Affairs and the Washington Area Model UN Conference. Through its conferences and events, the George Washington University International Affairs Society helps students sharpen management, leadership and interpersonal skills, promote international intercourse, as well as build lasting friendships. OUR MISSION The International Affairs Society at The George Washington University is established to promote a better understanding and general awareness of international affairs as they concern the students of the University and to cooperate with entities of the University to ensure a gainful academic environment. It is further the purpose of the International Affairs Society to develop a cognizance of the importance of relations among the nations of the world and the institutions that promulgate those relations, as well as of the culture and views of other peoples and nations.
