The George Washington University Campus Chapter of Habitat for Humanity has worked to improve the quality of life for people, especially those of the greater Washington, DC metropolitan area as well as Northern Virginia and Southern Maryland. Through education on campus, building projects both during the school year and over Winter and Spring Break, and fundraising efforts we've managed to have an impact on many homeowners as well as students, and this is only the beginning. Explore our site to find out how you can show your support for our cause and perhaps become involved in one of the most rewarding community service groups GWU has to offer.
Our Mission To capture the imagination, energy, and hope of students in order to productively and responsibly involve them in the work of Habitat for Humanity, a non-profit housing organization that seeks to eliminate poverty housing from the world and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action.
Our Problem The issues of poverty housing and homelessness are worse in Washington, DC than many other areas of our country. While 64.2% of Americans own their own homes, only 38.9% of DC residents enjoy this luxury. Also, 19.3% of DC residents live below the poverty line; an astounding one third of DC children help account for this figure.
To Get Involved Email us at habitat@gwu.edu! We are always looking for new volunteers!
