We, the undersigned students at the George Washington University, recognize that our part-time professors are central to the achievement of academic excellence at GW and are dedicated to providing us with the best possible education. Part-time professors constitute a majority of the teaching faculty, and thus bear a large part of the responsibility in the efficient instruction of students. It is time the University recognizes their respective abilities and pays them salaries commensurate with the essential role they play in the education of GW’s students. We support their efforts to obtain:
Access to health coverage for the professors and their families;
Increased job security;
A fair and transparent promotion process;
Access to benefits enjoyed by non-teaching part-time staff at GW.
As students who pay the highest tuition in the country, we expect to continue receiving the best education possible. We understand that this is only possible if all of our professors are treated with the respect they deserve.
