GW STUDENTS DEMAND AN END TO THE WAR IN IRAQ AND DEMAND PEACE

Join GW students, faculty and staff at 10AM this Saturday (9/15) in Kogan Plaza to demand an end to war.  We will join the ANSWER Rally happening at the White House and march with the nation to tell President Bush and members of Congress that war without end is unacceptable!

15 STUDENTS AT PURDUE U. ARE SITTING IN

Today at noon, 15 students from Purdue University entered their President's office and are refusing to leave until Purdue University agrees to adopt the Designated Suppliers Program.  These students need our support, and Purdue University needs to hear that the entire university community, in both the US and Canada, is demanding that they stop profiting off of sweatshop exploitation and instead source from factories where workers have a voice on the job and earn a living wage.  If folks could take just a minute to do a couple of things the students would really appreciate it:

1. Call the President of Purdue University, Martin Jischke.  Here is his number (765-494-9708) and a short script:

Hello, my name is _________ and I am extremely disappointed that Purdue University's apparel is still made in sweatshops.  I support the students of Purdue University and would urge you to adopt the Designated Suppliers Program and refrain from taking any form of disciplinary action against students for exercising their right to protest.

2. Send him an email message.

If you click on this link you can send a pre-written letter directly to President Jischke

3. Stay tuned to what is going on.  Students from Purdue will be sending out updates, as well as links to actual video footage from the sit-in as the day goes on, and it will be added to this website, so check in and see what is happening.

4. Forward this message on to other people and get other people to participate as well.  The more people that Purdue thinks are watching the more likely it is that they will adopt the policy and refrain from taking action against students.

HANG UP ON VERIZON WIRELESS

Workers at Verizon Wireless (VZW) lack basic workplace rights and receive inadequate health and retirement benefits. When they have tried to organize to fix these problems, VZW has conducted a campaign of illegal firings, threats, intimidation, and worker surveillance and has even shut down Northeast call centers and moved them to “right to work” states.   Sign the petition here.
