Constitution
Preamble
The mission of The George Washington University School of Business Chapter of
NAWMBA is to provide a forum of support, professional development and camaraderie
for its members. GW-NAWMBA provides members with networking opportunities, activities,
lectures and acts as an information resource committed to professional development.
Events will be adapted each year according to members’ career goals and
current issues that the women are facing in the business world.
Article
I: Name
The George Washington University National Association of Women MBAs (NAWMBA).
Article
II: Purpose
The purpose of The George Washington University Graduate NAWMBA is to offer
personal and professional development to its members.
The George Washington University NAWMBA will abide by established University
policies and the tenants laid out in this constitution.
Article
III: Membership
Any graduate student at The George Washington University is eligible
for membership. One can become a member by paying dues to the National Association
of Women MBAs organization and registering under The George Washington University.
A member can remain in the organization without paying dues, and can participate
in many of the free activities open to all students, provided for by the organization.
The George Washington University NAWMBA does not discriminate against race,
color, creed, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, and citizenship for
its membership.
Article
IV: Officers/Executive Committee
The executive committee will consist of at least 7 officers. The officers will
consist of President, Executive Vice-President, VP Finance, VP Alumni and Corporate
Relations, VP Communications, VP Information Technologies, and VP Community
Service. Voters have the right to specify a particular structure for the executive
committee. Executives may alter the committee structure as necessary to ensure
effective leadership.
The roles of the
officers are as follows:
President
-is the chief executive officer of the NAWMBA
-is a liaison to the Dean and Associate Dean of the School of Business and to
other student leaders within the University.
-shall work with other student groups and University departments to further
the GWU NAWMBA mission.
Executive
Vice President
- shall assist the President in the execution of her duties.
- shall be responsible for scheduling rooms for general meetings and other on-campus
activities as needed and act as liaison to the GW Scheduling Office, School
of
Business Office of Special Events, and other departments as determined by the
Board.
- shall, with the President, have signatory power for the financial accounts
of the GWU NAWMBA and shall also review the financial records of the GWU NAWMBA
on a quarterly basis and report his/her findings to the Board.
- shall succeed to the Presidency upon the President’s resignation or
impeachment.
Vice
President, Finance
- shall be responsible for proposing budgets for each year at
the end of the academic year.
- shall propose ideas for fundraising, organize fundraising events, write proposals
and requests for sponsorship, as well as complete accurate bookkeeping and forecasting
with regard to the clubs finances.
Vice
President, Alumni and Corporate Relations:
- shall be responsible for building and maintaining the membership
base,
- shall also be responsible for building an alumni network and helping members
contact alumni,
- shall also be responsible for building relationships with other GW student
organizations as well as other MBA programs.
Vice President, Communications:
- shall promote the GWU NAWMBA and communicate its mission to
the community as well as coordinate special projects, including, but not limited
to, charity events, panel lectures, and speaking events.
Vice President, Information Technologies:
- shall be responsible for building the GWU NAWMBA website and
for updating the website periodically,
- shall also work closely with the other VPs in joint efforts to build a database
of members, alumni and company contacts.
Vice
President, Community Service
-- shall be responsible for community outreach, monitoring and
suggesting any community concerns.
-- identify and coordinate volunteer activities for GW-NAWMBA and extend such
opportunities to the greater MBA community.
-- shall act as the director and contact person for all philanthropic events
that GW-NAWMBA is participating in.
Article
V: Operations
Officers will be elected via ballot-based popular vote by existing members at
the time of election. Elections will be held in November, and offices will remain
for one year period. Current members are eligible for office. In the event of
an election tie, a revote between candidates will take place. Candidates must
write a statement of intent for circulation among members before ballots are
cast. A new statement of intent is necessary when candidates are in a revote
situation. If an officer is unable to perform her duties, she may be voted out
by members or submit a formal resignation. If the officer resigns, she must
remain in official duty until transition to new leadership is settled, unless
decided otherwise by the executive committee.
Article
VI: Finances/Allocation of Funds
The organization will finance its activities with official budgeted funds and
solicited donations from University approved organizations. The organization
will submit an annual Student Association budget request. Financial records
will be kept with the Executive Financial Officers of the organization, as listed
under the Student Association.
Article
VII: Amendments
Amendments may be proposed by any dues paying member, either dues-paying or
not. The executive committee has the right to deny a proposal before bringing
it to members for a vote. Proposals under consideration must be voted on, either
by proxy or during a voting session. A two-thirds majority rules. Amendments
may be appealed by members by submitting a counter-amendment, and following
the usual voting process.
