About the AMA @ GWU
"The GW Chapter of AMA is dedicated to fostering the professional development of its members by providing career-related networking events, connecting its members to AMA resources and opportunities, and promoting friendly relations between marketing students, faculty, and alumni.
President - Deepika Sheth: sheth@gwu.edu
As president, I am chiefly responsible for leading all meetings, appointing special committees and being the chairperson of the board of directors. In addition, I serve as primary liaison between our faculty advisor as well as the DC-AMA professional chapter. When I took over the office, I, along with the rest of the board, committed to executing the AMA @GWU's three main goals:
1) Professional Development through career fairs and speaker events, 2) Philanthropy to build work experience in marketing, and 3) Camaraderie through social/networking events
We have a number of initiatives lined up for this year. The AMA @GWU is assisting Michael & Sons Inc, a home maintainence company, with its marketing efforts. We have speaking engagements from marketing professionals in advertising, brand management and market research from companies like Burt's Bees, Choice Hotels and Discovery Communications. We are also kicking the year off with a workshop on advising students on how to maximize career fairs and networking. Finally, the AMA @GWU also provides information on internship and job opportunities.
I am a career changer, with prior experience in economic consulting at The Brattle Group. This summer, I will be interning at Nestle Purina in its marketing department. Upon graduation, I hope to work in the field of brand mamanagement.

As Executive Vice President of the American Marketing Association, I support Deepika Sheth in her responsibilities as President. My mission for this year is to interact with other marketing groups from universities in the DC areas, and to have intercollegiate activities. AMA has grown tremendously in the last year, and I want to ensure it will continue.

As VP of Finance, I am responsible for making sure the club doesn't run into any cash flow problems. More specifically, my duties include the following:
1) Tracking club finances in both independent and school accounts, 2) Collecting membership dues and record membership enrollment, 3) Coordinating and managing AMA@GWU fundraising efforts, and 4)Managing and submitting yearly and mid-year budget and SA Funds applications
I am currently working with a non-profit organization developing web content and marketing collateral.
VP of Events - Lila Lee: lilalee@gwu.edu
As VP of Events, I have the job for planning “all things fun.” Some of my responsibilities includes:
1) Coordinating all social networking events, 2) Providing all the food for specified events, 3) Communicating with other AMA chapters in the DC area and organizing events with the perspective universities, and 4)Reaching out to companies who would be interested in participating in events hosted by our organization.
Prior to coming to GW, I completed my law degree, which I ultimately hope to use along with my marketing and business skills to represent professional athletes and teams.
VP of Fundraising and Philanthropy - Adina Alpert: aalpert@gwu.edu
As VP of Fundraising and Philanthropy, I am responsible for coordinating the initiatives of the club that make us money - the fundraising - and also ways for us to give of our time and marketing expertise to the community. Before coming to Business School, I worked in nonprofits doing marketing, program development and corporate fundraising. I hope to work in marketing or strategy after graduation.

As co-VPs of Communications we are chiefly responsible for overseeing all membership and recruitment efforts, maintaining membership records, handling written correspondence, and performing such other related duties as the president and executive vice president delegate. In addition, we are responsible for promoting the events and affairs of the collegiate chapter through website development, email, and word of mouth advertising.
The Community outreach component of this position is fulfilled with the execution of a community service/non profit orientated project for the club. Last year, the Marketing Club participated in an analysis of the Save Darfur Coalition’s merchandise sales operation. The final deliverable for this effort was a high level marketing plan.
Brian Wachtel Before returning to school, I worked for nearly four years at Shugoll Research, a company specializing in providing full service qualitative and quantitative marketing research. Upon graduation, I am seeking to transition into other areas of marketing, specifically in the sports industry.
Alai Chiu Prior to returning to school, I worked as an marketing associate for a research and development firm in the consumer health industry. I managed a wide range of marketing activites from start to finish. Upon graduation, I hope to further explore my interest in brand management and advertising.

As Co VP’s of Alumni and Corporate Relations, we are responsible for the outreach and event planning that increases student exposure to companies and alumni. Most recently we are focusing our efforts on planning the first ever DC-AMA Marketing Collegiate Career Fair, which will be held on March 26th, 2008 at American University. So far we have confirmed companies such as Under Armour and Choice Hotels. If you would like any additional information about the event, have any suggestions for additional companies, or would like to volunteer to help with recruitment please feel free to contact either of us.
