What is Circle K International?

Circle K International is the world's largest collegiate organization dedicated to service and leadership development, with more than 500 clubs in nine countries. The mission and the objects of the organization set Circle K apart from other student groups.

The Mission of Circle K International

To involve college and university students in campus and community service while developing quality leaders and citizens. Circle K inspires people to better our world. In support of this, we are committed to:

* Collaborating with all members of the Kiwanis Family to achieve our common objectives;

* Continuing student management of the organization at all levels;

* Developing positive role models;

* Providing opportunities for fellowship, personal growth, and professional development;

* Developing our service potential;

* Working towards greater public recognition of the organization.

Objects of Circle K International
  • To emphasize the advantages of the democratic way of life
  • To provide the opportunity for leadership training in service
  • To serve on the campus and in the community
  • To cooperate with the administrative officers of the educational
    institution of which this club is a part
  • To encourage participation in group activities
  • To promote good fellowship and high scholarship
  • To develop aggressive citizenship and the spirit of service for
    improvement of all human relationships
  • To afford useful training in the social graces and personality
    development; and encourage and promote the following ideals:
  • To give primacy to the human and spiritual rather than to the
    material values of life
  • To encourage the daily living of the Golden Rule in all human
    relationships
  • To promote the adoption and the application of high social, business, and professional standards
  • To develop, by precept and example, a more intelligent, aggressive, and serviceable citizenship
  • To provide through Circle K clubs a practical means to form
    enduring friendships, to render altruistic service, and to build
    better communities
  • To cooperate in creating and maintaining that sound public
    opinion and high idealism which makes possible the increase
    in righteousness, justice, patriotism, and goodwill

The Circle K Pledge

I pledge to uphold the objects of Circle K International, to foster compassion and goodwill toward others through service and leadership, to develop my abilities and the abilities of all people, and to dedicate myself to the realization of mankind's potential.

The Kiwanis Family

There are six branches of the Kiwanis Family: Kiwanis, Circle K, Key Club, Builders Club, Aktion Club, and K-Kids. Kiwanis is our sponsoring parent organization, which is made up of professional women and men. Kiwanis Clubs may sponsor or found any of the branches of the Kiwanis Family within their club's jurisdiction.

Circle K is the college student organization. We have about 13,000 members every year and growing. Our very large Key Club "siblings" in high school are the next youngest Kiwanis Family members. Key Club is the largest high school service organization, with over 210,000 members.

Aktion Club is the newest member of the sponsored organizations at Kiwanis International. It is a community-service group for adult citizens who live with a disability. Aktion Club members strive to return to their communities the benefits, help, and caring they have received, as well as develop important skills in the process.

Builders Club involves younger kids in junior high school. Usually, this service group is made up of students in grades six through eight. K-Kids involves all elementary school children and helps educate them on being good citizens and helping the world around them through small projects and field trips.
All of these branches come together for one cause-to better our world. We can work with local Kiwanis, Key Clubs, Builders Clubs; and K-Kids on service projects and events. No matter the age, there is a branch of the Kiwanis Family in which you can get involved!

Divisions and Districts

The George Washington University Circle K (GWUCK) is in close proximity to several other Circle K Clubs.  Circle K Clubs that are close to each other form a division.  GWUCK belongs to the Metro Division. There are three other clubs in our division: American University, Howard University, and Bowie State University.  A division is lead by a Lt. Governor who comes from a club within the division that they are leading. The Lt. Governor networks with the club boards to create a more cohesive division. They advise club officers and promote joint projects and events.

Each Lt. Governor represents their division at the district level. A district is made up of several divisions that are close together. The Metro Division is part of the Capital District. The Capital District is made up of Virginia, DC, Maryland, and Delaware. There are seven divisions within the Capital District: Valley, Tidewater-64, Presidential, Battlefield, Susquehanna, Foothills, and Metro. Each district is lead by a District Board of Officers. This board is made up of a Governor, a Secretary/Treasurer, a Bulletin Editor, and the Lt. Governors from the various divisions. All District Board Officers must come from a club that is within the district. Each year there are Fall and Spring Training Rallies (FTR and STR) at which the District comes together to receive training, do service, and have tons of fun. There is also a District Convention (DCON) each year in the Spring when District Officers are elected.

As a whole, Circle K International is lead by an International Board of Officers consisting of a President, a Vice President, and 9 International Trustees. Each Trustee is assigned to council three or four districts within the organization. Unlike, the District Level, the International Trustees do not have to come from within the districts they are counseling. Each summer there is an International Convention (ICON) where International Officers are elected. Members can also receive valuable training and will have an opportunity to meet Circle K'ers from around the world!
