chapter history

alpha phi alpha fraternity, incorporated gave birth to the n.a.s.t.y. nu beta chapter on may 22, 1977 on the campus of american university.

the inception of nu beta began with 15 strong, intelligent black men who we affectionately refer to as black genesis. these pioneering souls are: benjamin rudolph bowles, jr, adrian rowe brevard, robert l. butts, donald ellis deville, donald john edwards, jr., joseph edwin ferguson, john henry garnett, earl levon jennings, robert henry kelly iii, edgar emmanuel oliver, michael stanley reeves, daniel major robinson iv, darion anderson thomas, mark anthony trice, and anthony eugene williams

black genesis entered the realm of alpha on a campus not much unlike our jewels at cornell university. all of these young men attended prestigious and predominantly white institutions, and realized the dire need for change to strengthen the community amongst their noticeably small minority groups.

to this end, nu beta chapter has enthusiastically committed itself to "think alpha phi alpha, talk alpha phi alpha, promote alpha phi alpha, and labor for the broad principles of idealism for which alpha phi alpha was created, so that humanity shall look on us as a body worthwhile"

since the spring of 1977, nu beta has been on expansion with men. initiating dozens upon dozens of distinguished brothers into the ranks of alpha.

nu beta chapter has spread to georgetown university, the george washington university, catholic university, and continues to strive toward excellence while upholding the aims of our dear fraternity: manly deeds, scholarship, and love for all mankind
