Since the Spring Semester 2007, the Alpha class of the now formed Alpha Omega Epsilon Colony have been actively involved with bringing &Alpha&Omega&Epsilon onto GW's campus. Semptember 22nd, 2007, we achived our goal! &Alpha&Omega&Epsilon is now established as a colony, and we are taking steps to becoming recognized as a Chapter.
A few friends were talking about how close the girls in the engineering school here at GWU are together: we live together, play together, study together… well you get the point. We had also spent some time with the brothers of Theta Tau here on campus, and decided that the bond that they had was very similar to the bond that many of us already shared. This was the inspiration for researching about Alpha Omega Epsilon as an International organization.
When gathering support in the Spring of 2007 for the sorority, practically everyone that was introduced to the idea replied emphatically 'YES!'. Since then our membership has grown, and continued to grow during each Recruitment Period; during which we try to raise awareness of &Alpha&Omega&Epsilon around campus.
The founding girls just completed going through our first ever Candidate period, which is very much like other social sororities on campus. Every new class will go through this period in the same way that we experienced it. The time is meant to promote sisterhood between the Candidates, and to prepare us for becoming Active Sisters. This is a seven week long process, and with the help of our Expension Representative, Ciara Ginyard, we will be holding events on campus such as hosting guest speakers, fundraising events, and community service, as well as some social events like bar-b-ques.
We are currently recognized as both a GWU student organization, and one of 16 School of Engineering and Applied Sciences' student orgs. Our governing body, the ECouncil, facilitates communication between the school and our organization, and the engineering student body.
